User Rating: 0.3 (3 votes)

RegCure Pro is the latest version of the very popular RegCure software from ParetoLogic.  This program has been around for quite some time, and the Pro version adds a lot of features that can help give your PC a tuneup.  ParetoLogic has turned their perennial favorite into an all-in-one tool to ensure that your PC is running at peak performance.

But how does this program work and does it do what’s advertised?  I did some testing to see what’s new as well as how the program works.

What Is A Registry Cleaner?

There are several different types of computer maintenance programs out there, but what is a registry cleaner exactly, and why would you want one?  The Windows registry is a database of all the preference and settings files for your hardware, software, and Windows itself.  The entries are called “keys” and are stored in various hives called HKEYs.  Each HKEY has a purpose, such as storing the registry keys for the Windows user that is presently logged in.  The registry came into existence with Windows 95 as a way to replace the old .ini file system and give greater flexibility to user permissions.

When you change your default font, for example, the registry setting is altered.  When you change your home page in your browser, a registry file is changed.  There are so many registry entries, and after a while your registry can get cluttered with entries that are no longer necessary.  Sometimes when your computer is invaded by malware or a virus rogue registry entries can be left behind after the antivirus software has gotten rid of the actual virus.

A cluttered registry can bog your computer down, cause it to boot up slowly, cause hardware to conflict, and give you error messages.

Cleaning the registry yourself would be nearly impossible and we don’t recommend it as removing the wrong registry entry could mess up your computer.  However, registry cleaners are safe to use.  They run on algorithms designed to find unnecessary entries and remove them.  This is where RegCure Pro comes in.

RegCure Pro Features

RegCureProRegistry Cleaner – RegCure Pro’s primary feature is the registry cleaning system, that quickly scans your computer and reports back.  You can let the system do this automatically, or you can peruse the results and edit as you wish.

Defrag Utility – When your hard drive stores information it does so like a squirrel – it puts it anywhere it can.  This means splitting up the actual data in your file to different places on the disk where it finds room.  Over time your hard drive will be quite fragmented, causing it to take longer to load the data.  Defragging will put all that data back in order again, tidying up your drive.  This is a great feature – use it.

Malware / Virus Removal – ParetoLogic software also produces antispyware software, and the inclusion of this feature is a nice touch.  However, I would not rely on RegCure Pro to do this for you.  Get a dedicated antivirus software like Norton 360 to be safe.

Identify System Hogs - This will help identify any processes or programs that are taking up more than their fair share of memory by running in the background.  This can help improve system performance.

Startup Manager – Helps you to to stop unnecessary programs from loading when you boot your computer.

Privacy Cleaner – This will make it easy to clear saved form data, saved passwords, saved search history, and history files of your browser.  This is like a file shredding system for the random stuff that your computer collects over time.

Restore – If something goes wrong, you can easily undo any changes that RegCure Pro makes

RegCure Pro In Action

9226-126I really like the interface that RegCure Pro presents its users – clean, efficient, and easy to jump right into.  Users should not have a problem with this software, but documentation is available if you’re stuck or have a question about something.

I decided to run this software on a test computer, an old T42 ThinkPad laptop that we hadn’t been running anymore as it had been replaced.  It was taking forever to boot up, and the system was slow and sluggish.  Before running RegCure Pro I took a stopwatch out and timed the boot process to take 4 minutes and 42 seconds.  (We timed it from turning the on button to when the hard drive light stopped flashing).  We ran RegCure’s scan twice which gave us 725 errors on the first run, and 726 errors on the second.  This small difference could have been anything, but it shows that the program is definitely consistent.  We cleaned the registry and also ran the startup manager tool to remove some programs from the boot queue.

After doing all this it was time to test the computer again.  When we booted it up after cleaning it, it only took 2 minutes and 44 seconds to boot up, nearly cutting the boot time in half.  That’s pretty good if you ask me.

What’s Not Good

RegCure Pro isn’t perfect by any means.  When we tried to buy the software we ran into a little glitch getting the security code to unlock the software.  Everything worked fine in the end however.

Registry cleaners are also not “cure all” programs.  This is a program that will work best for people with cluttered computers that have a lot of file buildup and junk running.  This won’t help someone with a fairly new computer, and you don’t need to clean the registry on a newer computer.  Also, registry cleaners used to be falsely advertised as “cure all” software that would fix things like monitor malfunctions and other unrelated things.  Cleaning the registry won’t fix all computer errors.

Also, we would like to remind you to always back up your computer and the registry before proceeding with any registry cleaner or system cleaner.

If you’re looking for something to help an older computer that has gotten very slow, RegCure Pro could be just the thing that you’re looking for.  With an attractive and easy to use interface, it’s simple enough for anyone to use regardless of their technical expertise.  I would suggest that if you want to try it out, give it a whirl.  If you’re not happy, ParetoLogic offers a full money back satisfaction guarantee.

RegCure Pro IS THE REAL DEAL! My 1 of 2 hard drives, the C drive went from 174GB to 3.29GB in a matter of hours! 454GB is the max on each of my drives. I was doing some serious downloading! I knew I had to do a scan quickly! I scanned using RegCure Pro and it found 202.26GB worth of Junk Files on my computer! Wow! After scanning and rebooting my PC I checked my hard drive and low and behold it was at 201GB worth of free space! I will definitely keep using RegCure Pro! :D
