When it comes to keeping your computer safe, spyware removal software should be at the top of your list.  Part of this is because of the massive increases in identity theft, fraud, phishing scams, and more.  No matter how safely you surf the internet, there is a chance that malware could sneak its way on to your PC.

Spyhunter 4 is a software tool that makes it quite easy to remove malware, keeping your information safe and improving the performance of your computer at the same time.  How does this program stack up, and is it worth your time and money?  Check out our from scratch, actual use Spyhunter review for more information:

What Is Malware And Spyware?

spyhunter 4 in use

Spyware and malware are malicious programs that sneak onto a user’s computer without their knowledge.  Malware can piggyback with legitimate software (sometimes you won’t even notice that a piece of software is going to install itself alongside another, such as when McAfee tries to install an antivirus software when you install

Adobe Flash).   Other times it can seemingly come from nowhere in what is called a “drive by” installation, which can happen when you visit a website that has been hacked and infected with malware.

Adware can hijack your browser, redirecting you to advertising and e-commerce sites.  It can slow your computer to a crawl, and be incredibly annoying.

Malware, spyware, and adware are slightly different from viruses in that their main attempt is often to drive people to buy something or force them to visit a website, in which case the website owner would conceivably make money.  Other times malware can collect data from a person’s PC without their knowledge and send it on to a third part.  In this case, having malicious malware on your PC could be even more destructive than a virus that simply destroys data.

Spyhunter 4 is a great software program that can help safeguard your computer and prevent it from getting hijacked by malicious software.

Features

Spyhunter 4 has a lot of features and options to make any computer user happy.  I really liked that it strikes a great balance between offering enough features for advanced users, but being easy enough to operate for those that aren’t as tech savvy.  Here are some of the features that stand out:

Rootkit Protection – Rootkits are very nasty malware programs that disguise themselves as core elements of the Windows operating system, making them very hard to remove because Windows won’t let you get rid of them while Windows itself is running.  Spyhunter 4 offers a very advanced method of getting rid of the most difficult rootkits by booting the computer into a secure and separate “Compact OS” operating system from which it can clear those files from your Windows installation.  The proprietary software from Enigma will prevent and remove even the most difficult rootkits.

spyhunter 4 review imageSpyware HelpDesk Support – One of the features that I find so helpful with this software is the included Spyware HelpDesk support.  In the event that your computer has a malware issue that can’t be resolved immediately by the automatic scan and removal process, a customized report will be created by the program, sent to the technicians at Enigma, and a personalized removal plan for your PC will be returned to you.  This is head and shoulders above the support that other programs will give you, and puts it ahead of the game in terms of keeping up with the ever-changing landscape of spyware and malware.

Full and Custom Scan – You can do an entire system scan whenever you wish, and even customize the scan to only focus on certain parts of your computer.  You can also schedule scans to run automatically.

DNS Protection / Network Sentry – Prevents Malware from interfering with your DNS settings and your internet connection.

There are lots of other smaller features included with the software, such as the ability to disable third party software from accessing the internet, and much more.

Testing It Out

I installed Spyhunter 4 on on the very computer that I’m typing this review on.  It found some infections that I had absolutely no idea existed on the PC, as it had been running fairly well.  There was a particularly sneaky application that wasn’t even listed in the Add/Remove Software section in Windows Control Panel.  The scan ran fast and I was able to to have the results in a few minutes.  Clearing the infections was just as smooth.

I found the user interface to be breezy as well – I had no trouble finding what I needed when I was playing around with the settings.

PROS

  • Installation was very easy, and the program starts right up without a hitch.  This makes things very smooth for people who might not be used to running these sorts of programs.
  • Product registration was smooth
  • Scan is fast, customizable

CONS

  • Some users might be annoyed that Spyhunter 4 is blocking certain programs from accessing the internet, but this is a strong preventative measure in the event that a truly malicious program is attempting to send data out to a third party.  Spyhunter will ask you if you want to allow a program to access the internet, and once you “allow” it once you won’t have to do it again.
  • This software also tends to flag you down to purchase the full version quite a bit if you only have the “scan” version on your computer.  However, this is how most software companies tend to do business, even Norton.  So unfortunately this software is not free, but it’s also a legitimate software tool and the company needs to stay in business somehow.

User Testimonials

I have received some unsolicited feedback from people who had amazing results with Spyhunter – even to the point where other top notch programs failed to work.

I recently had a browser hijacker (aartemis)invade my laptop and nothing not even Avira could detect or remove it and this was on the morning of a mission critical day, nothing could get this bug and in my search I came across Spyhunter4 and gave it a try and not only did it detect and remove the hijaker it found about 63 other bad things that Avira and Malware bytes didn’t stop or catch.

This product is worth every penny and so is the registry scanning product they offer.

Not to say that the other products are bad but I am sure glad I found this one. Run it on your system and you will be amazed what spyware it finds.

Not exactly a computer buff but have to use one in conjunction with my business. I’ve had my laptop for about 2 years and for the last 18 months it’s been very sluggish. Tried everything from defrag and virus scans but made no difference then ended up with INCREDIBAR on my browser. Came across spyhunter 4, it cleared the problem and everything else my computer runs like new, couldn’t recommend it enough makes life a lot easier. My computer won’t be getting thrown out the window!!

Conclusion

If you’re looking for a great spyware removal software tool, then this program might be just what you’re looking for.

Hi. I downloaded Spyhunter and it analysed my computer. Almost a thousand infestations! The only problem is it won’t remove them before I pay. With our exchange rate it is almost impossible. Is there another program I can use that will clean my computer free?

I bought the full SpyHunter version just last week and then had second thoughts because of all the bad “reviews” and comments. But you feel this is a legitimate/safe software? And how often should a scan be done? Daily, weekly? Thanks for the help!

Hi Adrienne. Yes Spyhunter is totally safe and I use it myself. You can do a daily basic scan, it shouldn’t take that long. Do a deep scan once a week.

I am wondering how SpyHunter works with Norton. After I downloaded SpyHunter I noticed that Norton was gone. It appears it isn’t good to have both. So I have been trying to uninstall SpyHunter and it won’t uninstall. Thoughts?

Hi Debbie, I personally have Spyhunter and Norton installed on the same machine and it works just fine. I HAVE had problems with Norton disappearing, however. I have no idea why, and I think it’s an issue on Norton’s end. I have been able to fix it by uninstalling and reinstalling Norton.

it is very good at what it does the 4.17 version
    the only gripes i have
are it wizzes thru the registry scan until it comes to hcku/software/ie/searchcopes
then it takes an abysmal amount oof time to finish (ie when it reaches 98% of the reg scan
plus of you try to cancel registry scan it has a habit of locking up
wich can result in a press of your reset button
it also did this on version 4.15 (the 2010 version was faster and didnt cause problems)
